A White Rock woman is once again preparing to put her best foot forward to help children and young adults with disabilities enjoy a summer camping experience.

Leora Shipley’s participation in Woman2Warrior – a charity obstacle adventure race in Burnaby – on May 15 will mark her fourth year of raising funds for Easter Seals campers in B.C.

Shipley first took part in the event in 2013 as a way to give back to the people who had helped her son Nathan, who has a severe form of cerebral palsy. Nathan spent most of his teen summers at Camp Squamish, something he looked forward to year-round.

Since getting involved, Shipley has raised more than $5,000 to help with the week-long camps, which can cost up to $2,400 per child.

This year, she will be competing with her team, Scrambled Legs; Nathan, who is now a Camp Squamish alumni, will be handing out medals at the finish line.

“It is because of the hard work and support that women like Leora give, that Easter Seals fundraising continues to be such a community success,” a news release states.

Woman2Warrior participants must raise at least $300 each.
