Close to 1,000 guitars to be auctioned in Surrey on Saturday

‘Largest guitar collection ever sold in Canada,’ according to Able Auctions

SURREY — Close to 1,000 guitars will be auctioned in Newton on Saturday (June 24), starting at 9:30 a.m.

The lot, considered “the largest guitar collection ever sold in Canada,” is at Able Auctions, 13557 77th Ave.

“It’s a pretty huge number of guitars,” said Spencer Dodd, who catalogued and set up the auction.

A public preview of guitars will be held on Friday (June 23) from noon to 6 p.m.

Able Auction posted video to its Facebook page:

Dodd wouldn’t say exactly where the guitars came from, other than they are from one private collection.

“About a month ago we had another private collection here, about 300 guitars, and shortly after that we found out that another collection was coming our way that was going to blow that number out of the water,” he said.

“I haven’t seen another sale with this quantity, a one-day sale like this,” Dodd added. “This one has a wider range of guitars, with so many different types and styles, from all over the world, some really hard-to-find guitars.”

A few hundred people are expected to attend Saturday’s action, he said.

According to a post on Able Auction’s website, the lot includes “lots of rare, unique and collectible guitars representing dozens of makes. Guitars from Gibson, Hofner, Fender, Pan, Univox, Art & Lutherie, G&L (Leo Fender’s post Fender brand), and many more, as well as countless rare and highly sought after vintage Japanese guitars.

“One day only; every guitar sold to the highest bidder.”
