Lower Mainland potters share their passion with clay in Chilliwack show

Fraser Valley Potters Guild Association’s art exhibition is at Chilliwack Cultural Centre

A group of potters from throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley will be sharing their love of clay in the newest art exhibition at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

The Fraser Valley Potters Guild Association presents ‘Clay 2024 – Passionate about Clay’ a juried show on display from March 20 to April 20 in the O’Connor Group Art Gallery. Guest juror is Yarrow potter Heather Dahl.

Guild members said that visitors can “expect to be dazzled” by a wide range of styles of work from sculpture, slab, wheel-thrown, and coiled work with firing techniques that include wood, soda, smoke, gas and electric.

The show features work by 33 of its 100-plus members, and includes pieces by five student members.

There are about 80-90 pieces in the show, plus two ‘pay-and-take’ walls with dozens of smaller items, such as mugs, that can be purchased and taken home the same day. Any pieces of pottery sold that are on display as part of the exhibition must stay in the gallery until the end of the show.

Clay 2024 – Passionate about Clay is on display at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from March 20 to April 20. The opening reception is Saturday, March 23 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. where Dahl will be in attendance and awards will be presented.

The Fraser Valley Potters Guild was founded in 1975 by the alumni of the ceramics department of Douglas College in Surrey.
