New acting classes begin

Although South Surrey acting school Chameleon Studio/Kids Only Acting Classes has closed its doors, two affiliated instructors are stepping in to satisfy the demand for local classes for both children and adults.

Wendy Bollard and Robin Douglas are both starting local classes of their own to fill some of the gap left by the closure of the studio at the end of last month.

Founded by Michele Sands Partridge, Kids Only Acting expanded in 2007 to add adult classes.

The operation was purchased by Vancouver actor Tom Pickett and his wife Jackie, who took over as owners in August of 2008. They ceased operations on Jan. 31.

As of Feb. 7, singer-actor-director Bollard is starting a new drama class for children at Camp Alexandra, Mondays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Bollard said that when Chameleon/Kids Only closed down she started receiving phone calls from parents asking where she would be teaching next. Realizing she had a loyal following of young students, she decided to rent a space and start her own class.

“I love teaching,” said Bollard. “My goal is for each kid to have a ton of fun while they are gaining confidence and learning new skills.”

Meanwhile, former Chameleon instructor Robin Douglas (also of VanArts) is beginning an adult scene-study class in South Surrey starting Feb. 10.

The six-week class is designed to develop and challenge skills for aspiring actors.
