Semi grad lands starring role

Emma Leigh Hillier appears as Nadia

Dynamic White Rock musical theatre performer Emma Leigh Hillier takes a lead role as Nadia in Fighting Chance Productions’ Bare: A Pop Opera, onstage Aug. 4-13 at Vancouver’s Waterfront Theatre.

The show, set in a Catholic boarding school, attacks headline topics like homophobia, drug use and suicide, in a Jon Hartmere-Damon Intrabartolo score replete with “rousing rock and anthems and gut-wrenching ballads.”

After graduating from Semiahmoo Secondary, Hillier attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, where she performed in many musicals, lending her own touch to characters as diverse as Maggie Jones in 42nd Street and Audrey 2 in Little Shop Of Horrors.

Last summer, the CTC nominee performed with Tin Pants Theatre Co. in Port Alberni’s McLean Mill National Historic Site, and in November-December she returned to White Rock for the lead role in the pantomime, Robinson Crusoe.
