The show will kick off with an opening reception May 10 at 7 p.m. at the centre.

“Everyone has the potential to be an artist — the best teachers find that potential, enabling their students to create something the world has never seen,” a media release from the studio said.

The release notes that previous graduates of the studio have gone on to become professional artists and art teachers. One is currently designing covers for Vogue, while another teaches art a local high school.

“Making art is how I how I bring positive light to the world,” said graduate Luyi Wang, whose work is included in the new show, and who was recently accepted at the Parsons School of Design with a substantial cash scholarship.

“Coming from China I knew nothing about contemporary art. I was encouraged to create something new, something unique. I began by exploring the cultural traditions of Chinese calligraphy and colours,” she said.

“After seeing the work of Jackson Pollock, I realized I could create a new language of drawing and incorporate that into environmental sculptures of light and form. I developed a unique personal artistic style of multiple material layers of light and cast shadows.”

The centre is located at 14601 20 Ave.
