South Surrey’s newest restaurant promises elevated food, drinks and atmosphere at a golf course.

NOBLE at the Hills opened Monday (April 15) at The Hills at Portal course on 4 Avenue, with American-Italian-inspired food.

The restaurant and bar is open for dinner to start, followed by the launch of lunch service Saturday, April 20, with 150 seats inside and another 125 outside on the patio facing the golf course.

NOBLE is led by the team from Resurrection Spirits and Way Back Brew Co., with culinary director Graham Marceau, executive chef Travis McCord, general manager Jason Margoreeth and owner/managing partner Chris Meyer.

The concept came together quickly, thanks to work by Good Sunday Design and Like a Rock Contractors.

“We haven’t done any massive renovations, and one of the big jobs was moving out a huge beer cooler that was on the main floor, to open up the space on both sides,” explained NOBLE co-owner Mark Woodall during a preview party Friday (April 12).

“We pushed the ‘go’ button mid-February, just a couple weeks after we first talked to the owners of the golf course, and because there were no structural modifications or massive renovations needed, we got it done quickly.”

Marceau, who was featured on the popular TV show “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives,” has put his spin on traditional Italian dishes including pizza, hand-stretched pizza, appies, salads and other menu items found on nobleath.com, where team bios are also posted.

“The food is American-Italian and so we’re making our pasta right here from scratch, we’re making our own pizza dough and everything is made fresh right here,” Woodall noted. “We’ve got one of the best chefs in the Lower Mainland working with us, now that we have the three establishments. Graham is part of our group moving forward.”

Way Back Brew Co. opened in December with a tasting room in the Panorama area of Surrey, in a warehouse area on 54A Avenue. The ownership group also operates Resurrection Spirits in East Vancouver.

“With Way Back, the community has responded exceptionally well,” Woodall said. “We have the patio open now, and also the pizza made in a trailer we brought in, and it’s turning into a nice little community meeting place for people.”

With NOBLE at the Hills, the goal is comfort, good food and making memories at the long-established golf course.

“As a businessman living in South Surrey, where do you go to have a business meeting? That’s one thing that we wanted to create here, one of our visions — a place that would convert to a nice evening restaurant,” Woodall said. “We can use this for a golf tournament banquet space, with one side that caters to golfers after they come in after a round, but also the ability to turn the lights down and turn into more of a white-tablecloth, fine-dining establishment.”
