There are two opportunities coming up for fans of comedy to show their appreciation for the difference the White Rock-based Hilarapy humour-as-therapy program has made in the community.
Expect healing laughter, emotional relief, boosted confidence and authentic self-discovery as Hilarapy presents two special evenings, Nov. 25 and Dec. 2 at the White Rock Elks Club, 1469 George St.
The upcoming shows will be the last locally for a while, as program creator Lizzie Allan works on plans to launch her career in the U.S. in 2024.
In Hilarapy, individuals from abstinence-based recovery communities are guided in creating their own comedy acts, in which they discover their own resilience by finding humour in relating their experiences. In the process provide not only laughter for audiences, but hope for others coping with their own issues.
On Saturday (Nov. 25) the Hilarapy Recovery Project Show promises “an exceptional evening filled with laughter and personal growth” with a 7 p.m. and a 9 p.m. show at the Elks hall.
Tickets are $20 for one show, or $30 for the full evening, and are available at hilarapy.com/events-2/ or www.eventbrite.ca/e/hilarapy-recovery-project-showcase-tickets-743154714757
On Dec. 1, the Hilarapy Showcase features past graduates of the program performing Hilarapy-style stand-up at the same venue in what Hilarapy describes as “not just a comedy show, (but) a transformative experience.”
Shows are at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., again offfered at $20 for one show, or $30 for the full evening.
Tickets for the showcase are available at hilarapy.com/events-2/ or www.eventbrite.ca/e/hilarapy-showcase-tickets-746164436917
