Alex fest fast approaching

Welcome to your Neighbourhood House. Since 1894, Alexandra Neighbourhood House has been instrumental in connecting individuals who share skills, passions and experiences, creating a vibrant, inclusive community.

And April is membership time at Alex House.

Why become a member? To contribute, support and participate in the life and well-being of your community and to become part of the neighbourhood house movement. And if you sign up by May 28, you’ll be eligible to win a great prize at the Alexandra Festival in May.

n Come and join us for a delicious lunch Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m. It’s a great way to spend the afternoon.

And the Lodge Lounge is now open to house activities generated by older adults for older adults.

If you’d like to join us for lunch, call 604-535-0015. Cost is $6 and rides are provided in the Crescent Beach/Ocean Park area.

n Don’t miss our annual Easter Carnival on Monday, April 25, from 1-3 p.m.

There are lots of games and prizes and of course, remember to bring your Easter basket for the egg hunt. No pre-registration required – everyone is welcome.

n Alexandra Family Place is all about having fun together, discovering together, learning together, sharing together, laughing together and making friends together.

Drop-in with your infant or toddler anytime between 10 a.m. and noon, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Fee is $4 per family.

n On Sunday, May 8, join longtime Crescent Beach local Steve Chitty for another fun and informative walk in and around Crescent Beach.

Meet your neighbours, learn about Crescent Beach past and present, glean some interesting local tidbits or add some of your own. Meet in front of the Longhouse at 2 p.m., rain or shine.

n It’s time to start thinking about the 37th annual Alexandra Festival, which will be held Saturday, May 28 at 11 a.m.

A Family Fun Zone will keep the kids busy with a variety of activities and entertainment; more than 60 artisans will be showcasing their work and, as always, entertainment will run all day on the outdoor stage.

Parking woes? A free shuttle will run from the Crescent Beach Legion parking lot on 128 Street between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. For more information, call 604-535-0015 or visit www.alexhouse.net

n School-age care at Kensington Prairie makes a great transition from the school year for children from kindergarten to age 12.

Based on the Reggio Emilia approach to childcare, days include exploration, investigation, creativity and problem solving, and children learn through their natural sense of curiosity and wonder.

Full-day care is available Monday-Friday in July and August, and before- and after-care is provided during the school year.  For more information, call Kensington Prairie at 604-541-3273.

Donni Klassen is program and communications director at Alexandra Neighbourhood House. For information on programs/services at Camp Alexandra, call 604-535-0015 or go to www.campalex.com
