ALEX HOUSE: Alexandra Neighbourhood House honoured with award

Childcare program lauded by national IPAC/Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Awards program

The national IPAC/Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Awards program recognizes organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership and have dared to take their organizations in a new direction in the pursuit of better outcomes.

Our childcare program won gold as part of the partnership team at Kensington Prairie Community Centre, reflecting the importance of innovation, strategic thinking, trust, team building and effective partnerships.

We don’t always get accolades for the many things we do to support our community, and we rarely toot our own horn, but every day we make a difference.

So toot away!

• There’s still time to register for our Playaway Spring Break Daycamps for kids ages 5 to 12.

Spend nine fun-filled days in a traditional camp setting by the beach March 18-28. There’s a new theme every day, and it’s a fun preview of our 2013 summer day camps. Costs are $150 for Week 1 and $120 for Week 2. (No camp Good Friday March 29.)

Two or more kids? Need help with fees? Let us know. For information and registration, contact Doni Koskela at 604-535-0015 ext 229 or dkoskela@alexhouse.net

• Interested in the Alexandra Community Gardens? Want to get involved?

Alexandra Community Gardens is a volunteer-led project hosted by Alexandra Neighbourhood House, which includes 30 communal and individual garden plots.

We welcome your participation, contribution and ideas for creating local solutions for sustainable community food production.

• If gardening’s not your thing, get outside and get moving with our volunteer-led morning walking group.

Meet at the front office of Alex House on McBride Avenue at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. No registration required – just come and have fun.

• If neither gardening nor walking are your thing, and you’re looking for inspiration to get you going on those knitting projects you keep putting off, join our new volunteer-led weekly knitting group.

Meet at the Alex House front office at 10 a.m. every Wednesday.
