ALEX HOUSE: Honouring our many talented volunteers

South Surrey's Alexandra Neighbourhood House would not be such a vibrant, welcoming place.

National Volunteer Week falls in April, and as a volunteer-driven organization, Alex House welcomes the many talents and skills that volunteers bring to us.

Without volunteers, the world would be much poorer. And without our volunteers, Alex House would not be such a vibrant, welcoming place.

Volunteering is a great way to meet neighbours, have fun and serve your community.

We have two volunteer initiatives coming up – one short-term and one long-term.

The short-term opportunity involves assisting with the Alexandra Festival, our signature community event which celebrates 39 years on May 25.

We can’t do it without your help.

The longer-term opportunity involves a building project.

We will soon be recruiting volunteer tradespeople to support a major renovation project at the camp. While the building project is long-term, your commitment can be for only a portion of the project.

• Three deserts, five mountain ranges and some men on a mission – the Mongol Rally is the ultimate adventure.

What is the Mongol Rally? First and foremost, it’s the ultimate challenge for three men from the U.K. – the Adventurists – who will attempt to take a 1.2-litre car through the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia. And all for charity. Their charity of choice for this adventure is Alex House. The rally begins July 13 in London and ends in Mongolia.
