Already a month into this new year, and we’re still celebrating our newest arrivals.
Our first baby of 2014 was Autumn Speidel who was born on Jan. 1. She was given a stuffed bear and some hand-knitted clothes. Her mother was given a dozen roses.
The new year is always a time to take stock of our things and see what needs to be kept and what we can recycle. Our Superfluity Shop is always looking for good clothing and household items.
We also have a jewelry section and sell fine china, crystal and a variety of unique items. We occasionally even have musical instruments for sale.
This is a great place to get a special gift, whatever one is looking for.
We work with a local merchants to appraise specialty items to ensure we get a correct price.
Our boutique has a lots of special-occasion clothing. We sell all types of festive clothing and good0quality clothing suitable for work.
We always find new homes for things that we cannot sell. Eyeglasses are donated to opticians who can use them in Third World countries. Any books that are surplus are donated to Rotary for their book sale that takes place in Semiahmoo Shopping Centre.
We are always looking for wool, as we have volunteers who make slippers for us, as well as head bands and purses and a multitude of baby clothes that then get donated to the gift shop in the hospital.
New to the Superfluity shop is our furniture for sale. One week we may have a nice coffee table, and the next week there may be a dining room table with chairs. These items go quickly as they are priced to sell.
We never know what will be donated next.
One new feature of our shop is our debit machine. Our customers enjoy using this method to pay for items and we are happy to help them.
The Superfluity shop would not exist without volunteers. We are always looking for people who would like to spend time with a dynamic, lively group of people.
If you are new to this community it is a great way to meet new people and make some lifelong friends. Often the people that one works with become a second family. This is just one of the benefits of volunteering.
Some of our volunteers have been working at the shop for more than 20 years. They know the regular customers and what items they like to purchase.
Our volunteers had a long-needed rest over Christmas, while the store was being reorganized.
A major renovation took place to make the back of the space more efficient and making a safer work environment for all.
We look forward to seeing our regular customers and many new ones throughout 2014.
