Plenty of help for seniors

Did you know that approximately 15 per cent of Canadians have high blood pressure? Blood-pressure monitoring is a great way to stay pro-active about your health. Community nurses are on hand at Kent Street on Monday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m., so come on over and roll up your sleeve.

Free blood-pressure monitoring only takes a few minutes, so why not?

n There are still spaces available in the March 4 Mature Driving workshop at the White Rock Community Centre.

The free two-hour presentation will help you assess your driving skills and habits and update your knowledge of vehicle safety features and road regulations.

Co-sponsored with White Rock Community Policing and BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation, pre-registration is required. Please call the Kent Street Activity Centre at 604-541-2231 to reserve your seat.

n Kent Street will again be offering assistance to seniors on low income who require a hand completing their income tax forms. You must be over 65 for this free service. Drop off your paperwork in March and our trained volunteers will electronically file your return by computer. Completed forms and receipts will be returned to you and available for pick up from the Kent Street office. For more information, please call 604-541-2231

n Do you want to feel more confident in leading a physically active life?

Register today for a balance class being held at the new Centre for Active Living. (Conveniently located beside Centennial Park Leisure Centre). This course is geared towards those 65 plus and runs every Tuesday and Thursday.

n Wednesday night is for dancing at the Kent Street Activity Centre.

Doors open at 7 p.m., with dancing from 7:30-10:30 p.m. for all those 50 plus who enjoy live music and friendly people.

n The Kent Street Showcase has a date correction to May 15. This year’s program promises to have a bit of everything.
