SENIORS' SCENE: Get cooking at Kent Street

Upcoming classes and workshops at Kent Street Activity Centre include an option for singles looking for something to do on Valentine's Day.

Kent Street Activity Centre doesn’t want you to spend Valentine’s Day home alone.

Enjoy preparing and cooking a wonderful meal together in the company of others at our Single for Valentine’s Day cooking class Feb. 14 in the Kent Street kitchen.

The menu will include spinach and cheese soup, poulet a la moutarde, gratin dauphinois and molten lava cakes for dessert.

White Rock Leisure Services is pleased to present a series of Health Talks during the month of February.

Beginning this Wednesday, join us at the Centre for Active Living for Reflexology for Seniors. This engaging workshop focuses on improving sleeping disorders, low immunity, varicose veins, loss of balance, arthritis and osteoporosis.

On Feb. 28 at a Diabetes Update workshop, learn more about what diabetes is and how to manage it, including a review of new diabetic devices and supplies. Workshops are free for members and $5 for non-members.

There are just a few spots left on two upcoming winter excursions.

On March 9, delight in the magnificent sounds of the UBC Ensemble in this shortened version of opera (in a cabaret setting) at Opera Tea on the Stage.

On April 15, head to the Gateway Theatre to take in a production of The Grandkid.

This play highlights the changing relationships we have throughout the course of our life through a warm, comedic lens.

It will surely bring a smile to your face as it reminds us that the child in us never leaves, even though we may grow up quickly.

Are you a music fan? Do you love to sing?

Join the Sing Along group at Kent Street every Tuesday from 2-3:30 p.m. Piano accompaniment and song sheets are provided.

This positive, fun group will be sure to keep your spirits high during these grey winter months.

Middle Eastern Dance for Seniors is a fun filled, gentle-paced cardiovascular fitness class that builds flexibility, improves posture, and promotes self-esteem.

This women-only class begins Monday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. and will be held at the Kent Street Activity Centre.
