SENIORS SCENE: You can be our Valentine

Upcoming programs and events at White Rock's Kent Street Activity Centre.

On behalf of the staff at White Rock Leisure Services, Happy Valentine’s this week, may you enjoy the company of family and friends.

We would be happy to provide the backdrop for a meaningful day, whether you join one of our fitness classes or stop in to the Kent Street Coffee Shop to have a Valentine treat, there are many ways to celebrate.

Get into the wintery spirit at the Silver Blades Skates Feb. 14, or purchase a gift certificate for your loved one that they can put towards one of the many programs or activities offered.

If you enjoy working with wood, join the Peninsula Woodcarvers group that meets every Tuesday at Semiahmoo Secondary School from 6:45-9 p.m.

Enjoy a day of unique regional cooking at the Let’s Go to New Orleans cooking class held in the Kent Street kitchen on Feb. 22.

Learn how to make delicious dishes such as gumbo, jambalaya and étouffée.

The mix of African, French and Aboriginal cooking makes this cuisine fun and exciting.This course include demonstrations, hands-on cooking and, of course, tastings.

There are just a couple of spots left on the Local Haunts Tour with Pat Faulkner scheduled for Feb. 24. Seize the opportunity to discover some of the excellent food shops in our area including a farm market, Asian market and European specialty markets and delis.

There will be lots of time for shopping, lunch, and the discovery of many new ingredients.

Obtain the most current information regarding diabetes in the Feb. 28 Health Talk.  Diabetes Update will be held at the Centre for Active Living at 10 a.m.

Whether you are newly diagnosed or have lived with diabetes for many years, there is something for everyone at this workshop. Discover what diabetes is and how to manage it including a review of new diabetic devices and supplies.

This is a reminder that beginning March 1, volunteers will be providing income tax assistance through Kent Street.

This free service is provided to those aged 65+ on low income.
