Two pedestrians were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a pickup truck late Tuesday afternoon (March. 12) in Newton, police say.

The collision happened in the 13700 block of 76 Ave around 4 p.m.

The pickup truck appeared to be turning left from the Superstore parking lot onto 76 Avenue when the collision happened, according to a freelance photographer on the scene.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the police. Police would not comment if the pedestrians were in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

“Speed, alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in this incident,” stated Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha in an email to the Now-Leader. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
