B.C. turns up the heat

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for most the province due to high temperatures

It’s going to be a hot one today, with special weather statements and heat warnings in effect for much of the province.

According to Environment Canada, a ridge of high pressure is building that will bring sunshine and hot weather to all areas of the province over the next few days, with daytime highs reaching into the mid-30’s for some areas.

Heat warnings are in place for the Peace River, Cariboo, Fort Nelson, Fraser Valley, and Metro Vancouver. All other areas of the province away from the coast are under a special weather statement with forecasters expecting temperatures about 10 degrees above normal for the middle of June.

It’s the first heat wave of the season, where Environment Canada is forecasting these conditions to persist into Wednesday

The hot spot for the day is Nanaimo where the mercury was already tipping 21 C by 7 a.m.
