BC Green Party nominates Veronica Greer for Surrey-Panorama

Greer says she's 'very proud' to be transgender candidate.

Veronica Greer has been nominated as the BC Green Party candidate for Surrey-Panorama.

BC Green Party nominated Veronica Greer as its candidate for Surrey-Panorama.

"I am very proud to be a transgender candidate for the BC Green Party because of their views on the environment and policies on diversity," Greer said in a news release Wednesday. "Having seen many of the BC Liberals at the helm, I strongly believe the Greens deserve a chance at the helm to show they are the best choice for change."

Elections BC confirms that as of this week, Jinny Sims (BC NDP) and Puneet Sandhar (BC Liberal) are also running in Surrey-Panorama.

Candidates have until April 18 to confirm nominations.As of Peace Arch News press time Thursday, Elections BC records indicate the following candidates have also filed papers in local ridings:

• Surrey South – Gary Hee (independent), Peter Njenga (independent), Fabiola Cecilia Palomino (Your Political Part of BC), Jonathan Silveira (BC NDP) and Stephanie Cadieux (BC Liberal).

• Surrey-White Rock – Bill Marshall (BC Green), Niovi Patsicakis (BC NDP), Tracy Redies (BC Liberal) and Tom Bryant (independent).

• Surrey-Cloverdale – Aleksandra Muniak (BC Green), Marvin Hunt (BC Liberal), Peter Poelstra (Libertarian) and Rebecca Smith (BC NDP).

• Surrey-Newton – Harry Bains (BC NDP) and Balpreet Singh Bal (Other).

• Surrey-Fleetwood – Tim Binnema (BC Green), Jagrup Brar (BC NDP) and Peter Fassbender (BC Liberal).

• Surrey-Green Timbers – Saira Aujla (BC Green), Brenda Joy Locke (BC Liberal) and Rachna Singh (BC NDP).

• Surrey-Guildford – Garry Begg (BC NDP), Jodi Murphy (BC Green) and Amrik Virk (BC Liberal).
