A Missouri man wanted on child-pornography charges was stopped at the Peace Arch border crossing and turned over to U.S. authorities this week.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Friday that Marques Leroy Jones, 32, of Grandview, Mo. – wanted on a National Crime Information Centre warrant for possession of child pornography – was detained by Canada Border Services agents during a routine name check Monday, and escorted back to USCBP custody.
Following confirmation of the warrant, the Whatcom Couty Sheriff's Office transported the man back to Whatcom county jail to await extradition.
The NCIC data base is designed to share information – including outstanding warrants – among law enforcement agencies.
Based on such sharing, officers on both sides of the border have previously made arrests for such offences as homicide, escape, money-laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, child sexual abuse, fraud, larceny and military desertion, according to the USCBP news release.
