A suspected gas leak at White Rock city hall resulted in a brief evacuation of the aging premises last week.

Communications officer Jamie Leggatt confirmed Monday afternoon that about two dozen staff were evacuated and Fortis BC called after someone noticed a suspicious odour in the building around 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 11.

While a minor leak was found, Fortis investigators "didn't think that was the cause of the smell," Leggatt said.

"They deemed the system safe."

The evacuation lasted about an hour.
