Police converged on Earl Marriott Secondary Wednesday afternoon

A report of a weapon at Earl Marriott Secondary this afternoon led to a 'Code Red' lockdown of the school.

Police swarmed the area around 3:30 p.m. – as the school day was ending – and there were reports the police helicopter was also called in.

As it turned out, the weapon was what one officer on the scene described as a "fake," a replica pellet gun.

Police say a 15-year-old student pointed the imitation weapon at another student near the school smoking pit.

The lockdown was lifted soon after, and one teenaged boy was taken into custody for questioning.

Earl Marriott, located at 15751 16 Ave., has a student population 1,920 students and more than 120 teachers and support staff.
