Security guards at the scene of a fire that destroyed a South Surrey machine shop early Saturday. No one was hurt.

An early morning fire completely destroyed machine shop and office building at Fraserview Cedar Products on 144 Street near 66 Avenue.

The blaze was discovered around 1 a.m.

Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to a nearby sawmill and the Surrey School district mechanic a facilities building.

“Anytime you have a large fire everything surrounding it would have been in danger of sparks,” Surrey Assistant Fire Chief Brian Woznikoski told CTV news.

The buildings were destroyed and will be torn down.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but firefighters say they don’t believe it was suspicious or caused by sawmill dust.
