Messages of grief and sorrow are pouring into a social networking site set up for a woman killed in a newspaper office in Newton last week.
Ravinder Bhangu, 24, was working at Sach Di Awaaz Newspaper at 128 Street and 82 Avenue last Thursday when a man burst into the office brandishing knives.
Bhangu was killed and another man who came to her aid suffered several stab wounds, but is expected to survive.
Bhangu's huband, Manmeet Singh, was arrested at the scene and faces several charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says there is no indication at this time that the attack had anything to do with the business where Bhangu worked.
Bhangu and Singh were married in 2009 and had recently separated. She was expected to return to India in September.
A Facebook page dedicated to Bhangu displays an outpouring of grief for her loss.
"Still remb (remember) those childhood days wen v use to study n play together," wrote Harjanpreet Sandhu. "cnt forget even a single day frm those sweet memories.... still remb. hw ya taught me paintng flower vase.... really miss u."
"RIP Ravinder Kaur," wrote Preet Sekhon MP. "You will always stay in the hearts of your loved ones."
Relatives also expressed grief at the loss of Ravinder.
"Ravinder is our younger sister...," wrote Karampal Singh Brar. "We don't know what to say about that person who didn't show any mercy... may her soul rest in peace."
And there is also anger at why violence seems to continue unabated. "So it happens again! Another domestic Violence in our community," Manj Sihota-Thaman wrote. "When does it stop? My heart goes out to this beautiful young women who lost her life... RIP you will not be forgotton!"
Family and friends are holding a candlelight vigil for Bhangu tonight (Wednesday) at 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot next to the Vedic Hindu Cultural Society at 8321 140 St.
This event is open to everyone and all are invited to attend.
