Emergency crews respond to White Rock's West Beach Saturday

Emergency crews were at White Rock's West Beach Saturday, after a pair of canoeists ran into trouble on the water.

According to White Rock RCMP Sgt. Joel Glen, the response followed a 911 call that came in around 5 p.m.

"The complainant said he could see two kayaks in the water and there was two people in the water," Glen said.

It turned out the kayakers had gone to help the canoeists after their vessel flipped about 500 metres from shore.

The kayakers towed the canoeists in and the pair – a 25-year-old woman and 35-year-old man, both White Rock residents and both wearing life jackets – were checked over by paramedics at the scene.

Glen did not know what caused the canoe to capsize.
