Pitt Meadows Regional Airport is about to become even more accessible for emergency crews thanks to a more than half a million dollar injection of funding from the province.
This latest dose of money is part of an $11 million package from the government through the BC Air Access Program, which strives to enhance front-line services at regional airports.
The Pitt Meadows Regional Airport is one of more than 20 airports throughout B.C. that will benefit from this program, with the local airport receiving $520,000 for perimeter fencing and culvert replacement.

Dan Coulter, minister of state for infrastructure and transit, explained that these smaller regional airports provide a vital role in connecting communities and people in more rural parts of the province, and have significant involvement with local emergency crews.
“This provincial support will help our regional airports with a wide range of upgrades that will increase safety, reliability, and capacity for the services that British Columbians rely on, including access to health care and firefighting support,” said Coulter.
Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows MLA Lisa Beare applauded the funding, saying that it will go a long way for the small but mighty airport in Pitt Meadows.
“I’m glad our government can help local airports with upgrading and maintenance so that they can continue to help bring people and goods to our communities,” said Beare.
According to the provincial government, the updates made at the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport will directly improve emergency access and benefit local front-line efforts.
