Surrey averaging one shooting a week in 2018

Police believe Friday night shooting in 13200-block of 62nd Avenue was targeted

Surrey RCMP say there was a shooting in Newton Friday night.

It happened around 11 p.m. in the 13200-block of 62nd Avenue.

Including this most recent gunfire, there have been seven shootings in Surrey so far this year, an average of one per week.

There were 59 shootings in Surrey during 2017, in 2016 there were 61 and in 2015 there were 88.

At this point, police believe Friday’s shooting was a targeted incident, and no injuries have been reported.

Shell casings were found at the scene, police say.

No arrests have been made and Surrey RCMP have not released any details about possible suspects.

The investigation continues.
