Occupants of a South Surrey home learned the hard way Friday that it doesn’t pay to ignore police demands to open your door.
Officers with the Mounties’ Emergency Response Team forced their way into a home in the 2600-block of 152 Street around 11 p.m. Nov. 9, shortly after a citizen reported hearing a woman screaming for help.
The team surrounded the home after occupants refused to open the door to general-duty officers or respond to negotiations.
A police spokesman said the move was in the interest of public safety.
Several people located inside the residence were taken into custody for questioning. They conceded that a domestic dispute had occurred.
One man – a 35-year-old Surrey resident – found hiding in the yard by a police dog was arrested on outstanding warrants and taken to hospital for treatment of a bite to his arm.
Investigation is ongoing.
