A light snowfall fell on Surrey overnight.

A snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada won't affect Surrey as much as other parts of the Fraser Valley.

A low pressure system in Oregon is moving north, and “rain will change to snow this morning and continue through this evening” in the western Fraser Valley, said the Environment Canada warning, which predicted five to 10 cm of snow.

The snowfall warning didn’t apply to Surrey, but a light snowfall was dropped in parts of the city this morning. The national weather service is calling for periods of rain mixed with wet snow today, which could mean an accumulation of four centimeters at higher elevations.

The snow is unlikely to last, as the forecast is for rain and a steady temperature of three degrees.

Cloudy weather for Saturday will give way to sunny skies for Christmas Day, with temperatures slightly above the freezing mark.
