Fraser Health has refuted rumours, circulating in the community during the week before Christmas, that Peace Arch Hospital’s heating system was either ‘broken’ or seriously under-performing.

In a statement released Friday (Dec. 23) Nick Eagland, senior communications consultant for the authority said the perceived problem was a result of snowfall and low temperatures around the hospital, in White Rock.

“Though the heating system at Peace Arch Hospital is functioning well, the site recently experienced some cold drafts due to the low temperatures outside,” he said.

The result of the cold spell has been taken seriously, he noted.

“We are checking on patients regularly to ensure they are comfortable and are providing blankets and portable heaters to those who need added warmth,” Eagland said.
