The attack was random.
The Surrey School District is watching closely as facts of the tragedy are being revealed to see if any changes in security is need to be made at Surrey schools.
School District spokesperson Doug Strachan said Friday no one wants to see schools turned into fortresses.
“They need to be welcoming, friendly places,” Strachan said. “They are at the heart of communities.”
Strachan said the district conducts reviews continuously, but heightens them when any tragedy occurs, like the one that happened in Abbotsford.
