UPDATE: Teen fighting for his life after car nearly sheared in half in Surrey crash

Two teens and a child involved in collision with power pole Sunday.

Two teens and a child were sent to hospital Sunday night following a crash in Surrey that almost sheared a car in half.

Surrey RCMP is investigating whether excessive speed was a factor in a collision that saw a grey Mazda slam into a power pole on King George Boulevard near 64 Avenue at about 7:45 p.m. Sept. 28.

As of Monday afternoon, police said the 18-year-old male driver was in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries, while his 17-year-old passenger was fighting for his life, in critical condition with life-threatening injuries including a broken back and head injuries.

Police said a 12-year-old boy who was a passenger in the back seat suffered minor injuries and was released from hospital.

The car’s occupants were trapped inside the car for about half an hour while firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free them.

Based on witness accounts, a pedestrian was crossing King George Boulevard from east to west just before the crash. Police want to speak with that person.

Investigators also say a black SUV was driving along side the car at the time of the collision. Mounties are also looking to speak with the occupants of that vehicle.

If you have information about the accident, or people who may have seen it, please call the Surrey RCMP non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) to remain anonymous.
