White Rock residents and visitors who make use of west Marine Drive began using an alternate route last month, as work to replace the existing road and sidewalk got underway.
The work will focus on the roadway between High and Bishop streets, and necessitate closing the thoroughfare to traffic.
Council had approved awarding the $1.5-million contract to Imperial Paving Ltd. It follows completion of storm and sanitary sewer system upgrades along the stretch, and is expected to take about 80 days.
For the duration, the four-block stretch is closed to vehicles and pedestrians; transit buses arel also be re-routed.
