An elderly woman is dead after being struck by a car on Friday evening.
The 74-year-old woman j-walking across 96 Avenue in the 12300-block at about 5:30 p.m.
A man driving a 2006 Pontiac Pursuit was driving eastbound on 96 Avenue in the slow lane, when he struck the woman.
She was taken to hospital where she died.
Police say there is not evidence to suggest speed, alcohol or drug use on the part of the driver.

Police say it serves as another tragic reminder to drivers and pedestrians to be more aware on the roadways.
“This is unfortunately another tragic accident involving a pedestrian on our roadways,” said RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger. “Despite ongoing efforts to educate and enforce traffic safety throughout the city, we have seen our share of pedestrian involved motor vehicle collisions. This is now our eleventh traffic fatality of the year of which almost half have involved pedestrians.”
Pedestrians are reminded to only cross the street at controlled intersections or marked crosswalks and always stop to see if vehicles are stopping before they cross. Drivers are reminded to slow down, pay attention to their surroundings, and refrain from using hand-held devices.
Surrey RCMP’s Traffic Section continues to enforce issue tickets for such infractions as pedestrian “J” walking, crossing against lights or walks signals, and drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians. The fines for these types of infractions range in upwards of $109.
