Beryl passed away peacefully on April 28, 2021 at age 94. Survived by her sister Mary Barker, son Brock (Nicci), daughter Barbara Wells (Steve), and granddaughters Stephanie and Sarah.
Mum was the youngest of five children (Rae, Mel, Mary, Jim and Beryl), born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1927, and raised with love, dedication, resilience, and faith. Throughout her life, Mum always remembered her mother, Hazel Rankin, with great love and respect.
Mum moved to Vancouver in the 1950's and married Russ Lumsden, in 1958. Mum was a teacher, pioneering one of the first Kindergartens in the city. Mum and Dad square danced at Dunbar Community Centre. They were active members of Knox United Church.
She loved baking delicious goodies, long walks along Spanish Banks, attending theatre productions, playing bridge, and socializing with many friends. Mum was a staunch believer in a good education, happy to support her children and grandchildren in earning various university degrees.
Mum followed Barb and Steve to White Rock in 1996 and was a devoted, nurturing, generous Grandma to her two granddaughters. She was active in bridge and bible study groups, a voracious reader, and loved crosswords, her garden, and walks along Crescent Beach.
Mum travelled extensively throughout North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Closer to home, she delighted in treating us all to memorable annual family vacations in the Gulf Islands.
We are so appreciative of phenomenal support from Dr. Tyrell, Dr. Parr, and the care aides and staff at The Peninsula Retirement Residence, and Ocean Breeze Home Health Care. We all feel a tremendous sense of respect, love, and gratitude to our Mum and the support she's been for us throughout our lives.
Mum wrote, "I lived a long life full of blessings. The Lord has been with me and led me my entire life. My biggest blessing in life has been my family and my granddaughters. They have brought me so much joy. Remember the good times we had together."
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society or the Arthritis Society are welcome. Condolences may be sent to Brockwlumsden@gmail.com.
