Christina went to be with the Lord, leaving behind a family that adored her.

She is survived by one sister Alice (Stan) Warnock of Penticton; five of her six children: Rosemary, Margaret Jane (George) Ney, Ken (Jane), David (Elizabeth) and Rob (Karen).

She was predeceased by her husband Ray, and her youngest son, Bruce (Liz). She leaves behind twenty two grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren.

Christina was born in Peterhead Scotland, to James and Mary Alice Gowans. At the age of two, they, along with extended family, immigrated to Canada. She married John Ray Stewart in 1944, while he served with the Canadian Intelligence Corp in the war effort.

After the war, Chris and Ray settled in White Rock, where Ray resumed his teaching career. She and Ray were one of the founding families of the White Rock Evangelical Free Church. Christina began work from home as a columnist with the White Rock Sun and a variety of other newspapers. Later, as they moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, when Ray became a professor at the University of Lethbridge, she became a feature story writer with the Lethbridge Herald, writing a column named, "People of the South." She also became a realtor, attaining frequent recognition as top saleswoman in southern Alberta.

Upon Ray's retirement from University of Lethbridge, Ray and Chris built a cottage on Mayne Island, as a place for their growing family to gather in the summers for reunions. Chris was the life and heart of the family home. Her passion was to live for others, and she was known for her great hospitality to all.

Her godly example was played out daily through her kindness. An extraordinary life lived for ninety-six years, she will be missed dearly by her family and by many who knew her.

A celebration of her life will be held at North Delta Evangelical Free Church, 11300 84 Ave. Delta BC, at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 5.
