In loving memory ~

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of David Peters, who died peacefully with family by his side at Peace Arch Hospital on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024.

He will be missed dearly by his wife of 56 years, Afona, his children, Meg (Erin), Noel (Caroline) and Emily (Zach), and his grandchild Lee.

David was raised in Union Bay on Vancouver Island with his brother Danny and sister Laurie. As a child, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing baseball with his many friends. He also sang in the Union Bay choir where he and Afona first got to know each other.

Dave graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science degree in May of 1967. He and Afona were married in Union Bay on September 9, 1967, and immediately moved to the lower mainland where Dave was hired by Shell Canada at the Shellburn Refinery in Burnaby.

During his time at Shell, Dave worked in the lab on product development, managed various aspects of the refinery operations and was instrumental in advancing regulatory processes. Dave's love of the West Coast and its many waterways inspired him and his team at Shell to create and implement many of the tools and techniques still used today in oil spill clean-up and containment.

Following early retirement, he continued to consult on environmental protection in his industry and served on various committees. David enjoyed home construction projects, which included designing and building the family cabin on Hornby Island where Dave and Afona spent summers with family and friends and hosted many family reunions. Dave also enjoyed singing with Afona in various choirs and being Afona's favourite dance partner. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchild, Lee.

David had a strong belief in God and was an active participant in his church fellowship group. He will be dearly missed by members of his family, his church home group, and the Bishop's Green community.

We are grateful to the loving care Dave received from all the staff at Peace Arch Hospital. A celebration of David's life will be held at White Rock Baptist Church on Saturday, May 25, 2024. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Union Gospel Mission.
