Nov 5, 1954 - Mar 26, 2018
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Charles. He passed peacefully in his sleep on March 26, 2018, surrounded by his loving family after an 8 year battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Toni, his three sons, Ryan, Brody, and Troy, his father, Pierre, his step-mother, Joan, and his three siblings, Paula, Graham, and Russell.

He was predeceased by his mother, Blanche (1981). Doug was born in Mission City, BC. He was well known in the White Rock community for his work at Penguin Meats, the local family owned butcher shop. He started his almost 50 year career there as a clean-up kid, eventually working his way up to the Retail Manager and Head Meat Cutter. He played baseball with Mission Little League and White Rock Little League in his younger years, and later coached baseball with the WRSSBA as his sons were growing up. His hobbies included geocaching with Toni (they collected 3,362 over 5 years!), traveling all over the world, and exploring nature with many camping trips.

Doug was the quintessential family man, who loved nothing more than spending time with family. He was so proud of his sons, and the men they have become. He was loyal, generous, and fiercely protective of those that he cared for. He will be sorely missed.

The family would like to send many thanks to the Nursing Staff and Doctors of Emergency, 2nd floor, 4th floor and Hospice at the Peace Arch Hospital for their compassionate care of Douglas and his loved ones during his last days.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at 2:00 pm at the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club (1284 184th Street, Surrey).

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peace Arch Hospice Society (www.peacearchhospice.org) or BC Cancer Society (http://www.bccancer.bc.ca/) would be appreciated.
