August 17, 1929 - October 2, 2022
Ellen passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Melville Hospice Home on October 2, 2022. Ellen grew up in Cloverdale and moved to White Rock in 1954 and raised a family of four with love, understanding, and great baking.
She was a community volunteer who served on numerous committees but her special passions were healthcare, seniors, and the First United Church: President and honourary member of the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary, Chair of the Peace Arch Hospital Board, the first Chair of the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, a founding member of Seniors Come Share Society and Trustee and Church Council member for 30 years.
She was twice honoured as Citizen of the Year and awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for her many contributions to our community.
Ellen led an active life of canoeing, hiking, camping, and travel around the world including Antarctica, boating on the canals of England, exploring the art and culture of China and Cuba, visiting her relatives in her parents' home country of Denmark, an annual trip to Mazatlan, and many happy summers at Shuswap.
For many years the Sinclairs and Westons enjoyed sailing the local waters together and with the Semiahmoo Bay Sailing Club. Favourite destinations were Sucia, Desolation Sound, and beyond.
Ellen is predeceased by her husbands Hal Sinclair (1990) and Howard Kennett (2021).
She is survived by her children Lynne, Kay, Tom (Stefano Cavalleri), and Kim Sinclair (Eric Gallanter), and her grandchildren Elena and Giacomo Prioreschi.
She is also survived by her extended Kennett family: Nora (Bill), Karen, Ellen (Henry), Tracy (Bill), and Brian; grandchildren John (Kali), David, Warren (Lisa), Graham, Colin (Rachel), and Jeffery; great grandchildren Jack, Lily, and Kennett.
The family wishes to thank the many healthcare staff who took such good care of our mother at Crescent Gardens, Peace Arch Hospital, Peace Portal Seniors Village, and Melville Hospice Home.
