RAE, Ernest William

The family of Ernie announces his death on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Dr. A. Hogg Pavilion, Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, BC. He is survived by his wife, Hilary, his 3 children, Raymond, Leslie and Elaine, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Ernie was born on Feb. 18, 1918 on a prairie farm in Viscount, Sask. During his early years he moved with his family to Kerrobert, Edam and Prince, Sask. When war came Ernie joined the RCAF enlisting in 1941. He served on several stations in Canada eventually going overseas. He served in North Yorkshire, England and Belgium. Whilst in England he met and married Hilary Nelson. After his return to Canada he and Hilary raised 3 wonderful children in 64 years of marriage. His working career was in the sheet metal industry and he was a meticulous workman. He and Hilary had many trips to England and drove coast to coast in Canada. They took a trip by car the entire length of the Alaska Highway before it was paved. He loved fishing and in his later years, golf. He and Hilary moved to White Rock 5 years ago to escape the Saskatchewan weather. His last year was spent in care at the Hogg Pavilion. A Memorial Tea will be held on Oct. 13th 2-4 p.m. in the Eagleview Room at the Willows Golf and Country Club, 382 Cartwright St., Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation.
