We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Gene Van Iderstine on January 26, 2023, at Peace Arch Hospital. Born on September 10, 1938, in Kimberly, BC, Gene was the son of Frank and Marguerite Van Iderstine and had six siblings, Darryl, Ray, Geneva, Gloria, Albert, and David.
He grew up on a farm near Wycliff, BC where he developed a passion for horses.
Gene had a successful career in sales and management, co-owning Langley Chrysler, owned a high-end shoe store called Cobbler's Bench Shoes, and ran a custom embroidery and promotional goods business, Saltayre Studio, with his wife Marilyn.
Gene enjoyed travelling extensively by RV through Canada and the USA and was an active member of the WBCCI Airstream trailer club, serving as unit president several times and was also a member of the Elks.
Gene was married to Marilyn Van Iderstine, and had 4 children, Vincent, Lee, Elizabeth, and Anne. Gene was a proud grandfather of ten grandchildren and great-grandfather of three.
Gene will be remembered for his zest for life and his love for travel and adventure. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
