JOHNSTON, Franklin Dean. March 21, 1927 - December 21, 2012. In the peace & stillness of the winter night, December 21st, our devoted father & wonderful husband departed the earthly world - Our one consolation amidst our great sorrow is his Spirit, which lives on in his grandchildren and in the lessons of optimism, gratitude, and the joy he found in each new day. Dad's story began at 4:30 am on March 21st, 1927, in a house adjoining a grain storage elevator on a siding known as Kinhop, in rural Saskatchewan. He died in Peace Arch Hospice following 85 years, most of which were spent in good health and vigor. The major landmarks in terms of his working life included joining the Canadian Armed Services during the final year of World War II; as one of the last joining members of the B.C. Police Force; a long career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, several years I/C Preventive Security with the western region of Canada Post, and a successful and well-respected career in real estate. Dad lost Mom (Jean Hamilton) in the winter of 2002 following 52 years of marriage, and was blessed a second time when he married Julie Graf in 2005, spending the following 7 years exploring the world and making new friends. He is survived by his loving wife Julie, sister Heather, sons Rick (Lynn), Mike (Denise), daughters Tracy (Warren), Colleen (Mike: predeceased 2012), step-daughters Heidi (James), Kirsten (Joel), 7 grandchildren, 6 step-grand-children, and friends. A celebration of Frank & his life will take place at Benediction Lutheran Church, Tsawwassen, December 29, 2012, 2 PM. A reception will follow the service. Donations in his memory can be made to White Rock South Surrey Hospice Society.
