SAGEN, Gordon Samuel

Feb. 4, 1923 -

Sept. 7, 2009

It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Samuel Sagen, husband, father and Grandfather.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 66 years, Gladys, his children Gary, Glenda (Doug), Gloria, (Jim), and his grandchildren Kelly, Blake, Eric, Leslie, and Shannon.

Gordon was born on Feb. 4, 1923 in Stettler, Alberta. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta to join the Air Force in 1941 as a Bombardier - Soldier until 1943, when he married Gladys. He began an accounting career and worked as a Chartered Accountant/Chartered Internal Auditor for the Federal Government until health issues forced him to leave the work he loved for a drier climate, which he found in the Palm Springs area, a second home for him and Gladys for 28 years.

He was generous, kind, considerate, respectful, and a devoted family man. He loved a good laugh and loved to dance, having spent much time over the years with family and friends at the Legions in B.C. and Alberta, and in the Palm Springs area. He was a member of many organizations: The Legion, Masons, and Lions. This past spring he received his 70 year Legion membership pin, presented to him by Legion members at his home at Westminster House Care Home in Surrey, where he spent the last year and a half of his life.

The family would like to thank the staff of Westminster House for their compassionate care of Gordon, and for their ongoing care of Gladys.

Gordon’s funeral service was held on Sept. 11/09 at Valley View Funeral Home in Surrey.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordon’s memory made to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.

“Those we love don’t go away,

They walk beside us

every day,

Unseen, unheard but

always near,

Still loved, still missed

and very dear.”
