HAUTA, Helmi "Sylvia": Passed away January 18, 2007 surrounded by her loving family in Weatherby Pavilion of Peace Arch Hospital.
Sylvia was born June 11, 1924, the fourth of six children, in the pioneer farming community of Thorhild,
Alberta. She moved to Vancouver and later joined the RCAF during WWII and served in the Meteorological Department in Saskatchewan. After serving she returned to
Vancouver where she met Lawrence Hauta at a dance. They married in 1946, just 3 months after meeting. They went on to divide their time
between working in BC and farming in Saskatchewan for many years
until finally retiring to Surrey in 1977. Sylvia was well known for her
wonderful garden and love of
flowers and people would rarely leave without a bouquet. She was also active in the Surrey Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, BC Farm
Machinery Museum, and the Tynehead Fish Hatchery. She was predeceased in 2006 by her husband & dancing partner of 60 years, Lawrence, who was the love of her life. She was also predeceased by her sister Gertrude and brothers Arne and John. She is survived by daughters Helmi, Elaine and
Colleen, sons: Kelvin (Dee) and
Ellice (Carol),chosen daughter Brenda, sister Miriam, brother
Laurie, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A celebration tea in honour of Sylvia's and
Lawrence's lives will take place
February 11 at Clayton Hall 18513-70 Ave 1-3 pm. We are
saddened by our loss but so grateful to have had this wonderful lady in our lives. We'll miss you forever, Mom. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
