With great sadness we announce the passing of our Mother at 94. She is survived by her children Charlene (Rob), Corene, Cyndi (Michael), Lee (Barry), Chuck (Amy) and Gary (Fiona), 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, Sister Bernice and many nieces and nephews. Greatly missed by longtime best friend and dance partner Bob Chapman. Predeceased by husbands Wilf and Chuck and grandson Scott.
Born in Transcona, Manitoba to a family of 10, she moved to Toronto at 17 to work in a munitions factory and at 19 became a war bride. Twice married, she eventually became a single Mother. Avid reader and self- learner, she strongly believed in higher education and worked tirelessly to help each of us to succeed. Bookkeeper, office manager, hotel owner, bartender, Mom did it all. Along the way she became a successful entrepreneur and restaurant owner in South Bend, Indiana.
Passionate about baseball and dancing, she joined seniors baseball teams, avidly followed the Blue Jays, and helped at baseball events. She was a wonderful dancer and enjoyed ballroom, square and line dancing.
In later years Mom focused her energies on volunteering; the Legion's Ladies Auxiliary, Peace Arch's Superfluity Thrift Store, Cameron and Kent Senior Centres, Star of the Sea Church and other events in South Surrey/White Rock. She also helped found the Tidal Waves square dance club.
Mom had a zest for life, followed her passions, loved and supported her family, and had an amazing social life where she developed many treasured friendships. We were blessed to have her in our lives.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at 11:30 am at Morgan Creek Golf Club, 3500 Morgan Creek Way, Surrey BC.
