Ian passed away at age 80 on July 20, 2019, with his family at his side. He had been on the Alzheimer journey since 2010 but succumbed to a head injury after a recent fall. He was a devoted son to Rene & John Monaghan (now deceased), and a loving father to Lorraine and Glen. He was proud of his Scots' heritage
but was equally proud to become a Canadian when he moved from Glasgow to Toronto in 1957. There he met his sweetheart Carol and they married in 1961.
They moved to B.C. to follow Ian's dream where he began a rewarding career in 1966 with C.P.Air (later Air Canada). Ian and Carol moved into their forever home on Maple Street, which they always felt had some of the best neighbours in town. Ian was a do-it-yourself guy fixing just about everything. Although Ian travelled worldwide for the Airline, he also contributed to his community. He was a member of the White Rock Board of Variance for 22 years and volunteered in many capacities at First United Church.
Carol & Ian enjoyed many travels before the Alzheimers stole more and more of his abilities. In 2014, his little rescue dog, Skipper, became his companion on their walks around White Rock. Ian moved to Evergreen Baptist Centre in Feb. 2019, where he received wonderful care.
He will be deeply missed by Carol, Lorraine and Glen, daughter in law Carolyn and grandchildren Ryan, Justin, Heather and Aaron. If you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please consider Peace Arch Hospital or the Alzheimer Society.
Service to be held at Peninsula United Church, 2756 127 St., Surrey on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 2 pm.
