Josephine Anna-Maria Van Stekelenburg – Slaghek November 30, 1924 - July 28, 2013. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother after a brave battle with cancer. She is predeceased by her husband Arnold (Nol) and is survived by her children, Margaret, Carol (Dave), John (Tracey), and grandchildren Matt (Michelle), Kristian, Nikolas, Nicole, Leslie and Shelley. With a happy disposition she became a world traveler, working as a children's nurse aboard the Dutch Immigrant Ships until she met a dashing young dentist while in Jakarta, Indonesia. He lured her to Canada in 1956 and they were married in Edmonton Alberta. Three children and a move to Vancouver kept her very busy during those first few years in Canada. As her family started to grow up, she went back to her love of Art History, first volunteering her time as a docent in the Vancouver Art Gallery, and later on as a student of Fine Art History at Capilano College and UBC. After her husband retired and with more world travels behind them they settled in White Rock, where she donated her time at the Library and was a member of the Rotary Club. We would like to thank all of her friends and Staff especially Polly and Joleen at the Royale Peninsula, Dr. Pretty, Carol McVany, along with the many nurses from Fraser Health, the Surrey Cancer Clinic, and the Nurses and Staff at the Peace Arch Hospice for all of their care and attention while our mother was ill.

We miss you Mama, Oma but know that you are safe in Papa's arms again.
