Kathleen May (nee Pickles) Pennant known to friends and loved ones as Kay passed away on Easter Sunday, 17 April 2022. She was born in Liverpool and emigrated to Canada with her husband Jack (predeceased), and daughter Susan to Canada in the mid-1950's.
A life-long learner, Kay was interested and enjoyed many hobbies: mosaics, quilting, knitting and reading. She worked at UBC for 26 years predominantly at Continuing Education as a Program Coordinator, which she thoroughly enjoyed and made life-long friends.
She was a key member of the Piece Arch Quilters, designing quilts and making quilts for families in distress through the RCMP and for families with premature babies. She also volunteered with her husband Jack to establish Pacific Spirit Park in Vancouver.

A dedicated sportswoman, Kay was active in tennis, skiing (both downhill and cross country), hiking, sailing and cycling. Indeed, she played in her last tennis tournament when she was 73. She will always be remembered for her love of life and art and her wonderful use of color. Kay enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
Kay's mischievous behavior was legendary. Her wicked sense of humor was a defining trait, contributing to the strength and stoicism so characteristic of her generation. She died with dignity, grace and humor. She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt to nieces and nephews in the US and Australia.
Kay is survived by her children Susan (husband John), Jane (husband Garnet), Ann (husband Vern); and John (wife Helen) as well as her grandchildren Andrew, Allegra, Alan, Travis, and Thomas and half-sister Barbara and sister-in-law, Irene.
All who knew her loved her and will always carry her in their hearts. A model to us all. The family is very grateful to the support and care of the medical staff at Peace Arch Hospital.
As Kay said, "The nurses are amazing!"
