SHELEMEY, Lucy (Lucyna)

February 10, 1928 - October 16, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Lucy Shelemey. Lucy was born in Komorow, Poland. At the beginning of World War II, Lucy, at the age of 13 was taken from her family by the Nazis to work in Germany. When the war was over, Lucy, at age 17, chose to come to Canada on her own to have a better life, even though she didn't know anyone there and couldn’t speak the language. In Edmonton, she met the love of her life, Andrew Shelemey and married in 1951. She worked outside the home her entire life to generously support the family she loved, not only in Canada but also in Poland. She loved cooking and gardening and excelled at both. Mom retired from the Charles Camsell Hospital after 25 years of service and then moved to Whiterock with Dad in 1996.

Lucy is survived by her 3 children, Jean Shelemey, John Shelemey (Jacqueline and grandchildren Hannah and Hayley) Diana Pozzolo (and grandchildren Josie and Jayden), all of the Vancouver area. Lucy is predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Andy. She will be dearly missed many relatives and friends in Canada & Europe.

A Funeral service will be held on Friday October 28 at 2pm at Victory Memorial Park, 14831 - 28th Avenue, Surrey, BC. A reception will follow. We wish to thank everyone at Christianson Village in Gibsons, BC for the wonderful care they provided Mom.
