Taylor, Mary nee O'Brien, born February 15, 1934 in Cornwall, England, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on June 18, 2009. She is lovingly remembered by Roger; her sons Jim (Solange), Bruce and Peter (Chris); her 3 grandchildren Michelle, Andrew and Matthew; her brothers John and Maurice and her sister Joan; and, many nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends. Predeceased by her dear son Charlie. Born in Liskeard, England in 1934, Mary went on to become an assistant professor of economics at Exeter University before marrying Roger and leaving for Canada in 1958. She gave birth to Charlie and Jim in Elliot Lake before moving to Ghana and Sierra Leone for seven years where Roger and Mary welcomed the arrival of Bruce. Mary loved her time in Africa where she developed a deep fondness for the African people. The family moved back to Canada in 1969, having Peter in England on the way. In 1973, the family settled in Vancouver where Mary became involved in the community as a volunteer in the downtown eastside before attending law school, and then practicing law from 1986 to 1996. She and Roger retired to White Rock in 1999. Mary was devoted to her friends and family, always looking to help others before thinking of herself, and always having a kind word and open heart for those who came into her life. She had a passionate thirst for knowledge and books, and enjoyed the company of friends for a game of bridge or a festive gathering. Mary lived a rich and fascinating life, and was unstinting in her love and support for Roger and her family. She will be fondly remembered by her family and the many friends that she made so easily over the years. Her family would like to thank Dr. Andre Bredenkamp, Dr. Chris King, and the nursing staff of the White Rock Home Care Nursing Services for their wonderful support during the final days of Mary's journey.
A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 10:00 am at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey, B.C. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the BC Cancer Society.
