March 14, 1947 - February 6, 2024
Sunrise: March 14, 1947, Sunset: at 76 years old on February 6, 2024, at Melville Hospice in South Surrey after a long battle with COPD.
Ross' early life was in White Rock, where our family have been long-time residents and pioneers since 1920. Following our parents to towns in BC, he settled in Nanaimo for his teens and early adulthood. Eventually relocating to Victoria for many years with his then wife, Christine Hall, to raise their daughters; before returning to White Rock over 25 years ago.
Ross held several positions within the healthcare industry; work that gave him an opportunity to serve others, which brought him much happiness. He served a term in the Royal Canadian Air Force; stationed at Comox (Lazo). In his latter life, he had odd jobs, did volunteer work, and provided vacation support for friends by house and pet sitting.
He made friends easily and was loyal to those he befriended. Great care for others he gave freely.
A lover of all varieties of music, Ross accompanied his elderly friend Arnold for many years to VSO concerts. For several years he was the travelling companion of our Uncle Donald (Don) Munro; they shared trips to Hawaii, US destinations and multiple cruises until Uncle passed away in 2010.
Ross is predeceased by his first best friend and brother Keith in 1977, our parents Andrew (Andy) and Lynn Munro in 1996 the year of their 50th wedding anniversary, our grandparents, aunts and uncles, and several cousins.
He is survived by his sisters Candy Munro in Regina, Dawn (Paul) Chartand in Comox, and brother Andrew (Theresa) of Vancouver.
By his children, Tanya (Steve) Wellburn and three grandchildren of Victoria, and Leila (Byron) Skidmore and two grandchildren of Brandon (Manitoba).
Nieces Rhonda and Gina, nephews Bryan and Kevin, and their families.
Also, by his former sister-in-law, Eva Munro, who was a support for him during his declining years, plus many friends and companions.
We would like to thank the staff and residents of White Rock Senior Village who made the last few years enjoyable with their friendship of Ross. We also want to express our gratitude to the staff of Melville Hospice for their caring of him during his final days.
The family will hold a gathering and celebration of Ross in spring.
We request that those wishing to honour Ross do so by donating to White Rock South Surrey Hospice Society or BC Lung Foundation.
